Mathematics is creative, mathematics is fascinating, mathematics is versatile. Mathematics is essential for modern key technologies. The DFG Research Center Matheon is an internationally renowned center of excellence for applied mathematics. In 2007 it has been selected as "Place in the land of ideas" in recognition of its important application-driven research. This is one reason for inviting you to a vivid and eventful "Maths Show": great entertainment, no formulas, but nevertheless fascinating mathematics.

A second reason is the Digital Advent Calendar of Matheon: Each day from December 1st-24th, at 18 o'clock sharp a virtual door opens on our website www.mathekalender.de, a new tricky mathematical problem occurs and young people are invited to solve them online. Last year, we were happy to count more than 9.000 pupils and also adults from all over the world as participants. The opening of this year's calendar, in the presence of the Federal Minister of Education and Research, Dr. Annette Schavan, will be the central theme of the Maths Show.
